The votes are in, and we're happy to announce that we have our very first winner of the ASG Line and Lyric Contest... Julia Finucane! With April's Line and Lyric theme of Sunshine in England as inspiration, Julia created a lovely painting featuring one of the whimsical, doe-eyed girls in which her art is known for. And now, a little glimpse into the whimsical world of the enchanting Julia Finucane...
A special thanks to all of the wonderful participants and voters in the first ever Art School Grad art contest! We hope to see all of your talent represented in the coming Line and Lyric contests.

Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Julia Finucane. I am a fantasy, fairy, big eye girl, whimsical themed artist. I am currently a freelance, self-employed artist. I travel back and forth from my hometown of Buffalo, NY and NYC pursuing my love of art creating.
Where do you find inspiration for your paintings?
I have had a love for fantasy and fairy tales since I was young. My favorite books and movies were Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, and Cinderella. I still love the fantasy world and I feel my art represents these themes with a story behind each piece.

The themes that are dominant in my artwork are whimsical based and combine reality and the fantasy world. I also get inspiration and ideas from events that happen in my everyday life which I include in my artwork as well. I paint fairies, whimsy birds, and Victorian styled 'Big Eye Girls' which resemble porcelain dolls. I work with many mediums, but acrylics are most dominant in my pieces. I use a lot of metaphoric symbols and colors to show emotion and to portray the stories I am telling. All my pieces have stories behind them, but I encourage everyone to interpret their own stories from my pieces.
Three words that describe you.
Happy, understanding, loving.
When did you first discover your creative side?
I have been creating art since I was a little girl.
To create a fantasy based world through my art that I can shear with others. We all need alittle fantasy sometimes.
*What artists do you admire?
Monet, Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci... to name a few
What should the world know about Julia Finucane?
I am happily married to my husband Christopher, who assists me with all my art adventures and creations. I am an animal lover and happy to be able to shear my life with many. I have two ferrets named Thelma and Louis, two cats named Smokey and Penelope, and a doggy named Puppy.
